Groom's Checklist

As Soon As Possible
(hopefully 6 months to a year before the wedding)

Don't forget to romance your bride during this process
Begin to educate yourself about weddings and receptions
Discuss with your fiance the details of the wedding such as the size and style of
ceremony and reception
Discuss with her the amount of involvement she would like you to have in the planning
Discuss and decide on a realistic budget based on your research and priorities
Select a wedding date and time, a ceremony site, and a reception site
Discuss if you or your family will share expenses beyond the traditional budget items
Start compiling your guest list
Choose best man, groomsmen and/or ushers (you need one usher for
approximately 50 guests)
Start planning and making travel and accommodation arrangements for the
honeymoon. Update your passport, travel visas and shots if necessary
Discuss and plan with your fiance your new home together. If your fiance is moving
in with you, start cleaning out closets, cupboards, and drawers to make room for your
bride and wedding gifts
Inquire about pre-marital counseling from your church and/or minister
Ask the bride what you can do to assist her in her planning

3-6 Months Before

Complete your guest list and give it to your fiance
Arrange for each groomsman's wedding attire with your fiance
Discuss with your bride what your part of the flowers will be. Traditionally this is
the bride's bouquets (main and toss), men's boutonnieres, and mothers' corsages
Select and purchase the bride's and the attendants' gifts
Complete all the honeymoon reservations, taking care of the necessary deposits
Ask the bride what you can do to assist her in her planning

2-4 Months Before

Help your parents with plans for the rehearsal dinner party
Arrange accommodations for out-of-town attendants
Ask the bride what you can do to assist her in her planning

4-6 Weeks Before

Take care of business and legal affairs Add bride's name to checking account,
charge cards, insurance and medical policies
Ask the bride what you can do to assist her in her planning

2 Weeks Before

Arrange to go with your bride to obtain the marriage license
Check on accommodations for out-of-town guests
Arrange for utilities and phone service to be turned on in the new home and
notify the post office of change of address

1 Week Before

Pick up and try on wedding attire
Make sure that the groomsmen and ushers get their wedding attire
Pack for honeymoon and make sure you have all the important papers
and documents you'll need for the trip (tickets, passports, and traveler's
checks, etc.)
Ask someone to take charge of the gifts brought to the reception
Ask the best man to present the officiant's fee (in a sealed envelope)
Assist the bride wherever she needs it
Relax whenever possible
